We specialise in problem children's ponies including behaviour management and re-education.

Most problems with ponies originate from the misunderstanding that because they are small they should be treated like a dog, but the same psychology applies to ponies as to horses.

Another common problem we see with ponies is that they have become sour or unmanageable due to their young riders being uneducated in horse handling and riding.

The best thing you can do for your child and pony is have the child taught to ride correctly so that the pony does not suffer at the hands of an inexperienced rider and so that the child has the tools to handle a pony both riding and on the ground.

We see and hear of many people that sell on a pony because of behavioural issues that arise which could have been remedied.

Founder Management

Due to the nature of ponies and the current health of soils in Australia, ponies and horses are prone to founder quite quickly and severely.

If you are struggling to manage a chronic foundering pony we may be able to help you implement a diet to help correct the deficiencies that can create this condition, before it causes permanent damage.

The pony below had an on going struggle with founder and was obese prior to arriving at Koorlongka Pony Stud. He was very footsore when he was picked up and had it been any longer before intervention he would not have been able to travel.  It took some 6 months to get him to a point where he was in a state in which he could be begun to work. He was then sold on to a wonderful horse home in the Nowra district and leads a wonderful life with his new family.
